Another Sebring Juvenile Stakes-Winner
Golden Slipper winner Sebring is having a hot run with his juveniles and added another new stakes-winner to the tally at Randwick on Saturday when exciting filly Believe Yourself charged home to win the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes.
Japanese owner Mr Tomohiro Sekiguchi enjoyed much success last season with his slick juvenile Marseille Roulette and it looks as though he has plucked another good one from the Inglis Classic yearling sale in Sebring filly Believe Yourself.
Prepared by Gerald Ryan, the talented chestnut won on debut at Kembla back in December and tuned up for this much tougher assignment with a recent trial win at Rosehill, but was still not anticipated to trouble the favourites.
Allowed to settle and find her feet by Jason Collett, Believe Yourself swept home with a powerful burst to nail race favourite Twirl right on the line, winning by a short neck.
“She’s an amazing filly as she doesn’t really show that much at home,” Ryan revealed.
“She’s probably five lengths better when she comes out of the gates.
“I thought she’d be better at 1400 or a mile, but the owner is very keen to run in the Golden Slipper, so I told him she would have to win her way there and now she’s done that.
“She couldn’t take another hard run before then, so she will probably go straight into it from here.”
A $140,000 purchase from the Turangga Farm draft, Believe Yourself was the highest priced filly at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and third highest priced overall.
Bred by Stuart Ramsey’s Turangga Farm, Believe Yourself has already nearly recouped her purchase price in winning $123,950 in prizemoney and is the first winner for unraced Private, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group III winner Tully Dane and stakes-winner Mygoodgrace.
It is also the family of Group I winners Daffodil and Good Faith.
Private has been a regular visitor to Sebring and has a yearling colt and colt foal also by the Golden Slipper winner.
The yearling colt will be offered by Turangga Farm at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 163.
Believe Yourself is the eighth stakes-winner for Sebring and is his fifth since the start of March joining Dissident, Clifton Red, Bring Me the Maid and Interspersed.
