Another Crystal Stakes-Winner for Contract
David and Jenny Moodie of Contract Racing have bred a lot of good horses carrying the ‘Crystal’ prefix including Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily and cheered home her three-quarter brother-in-blood Crystal Dreamer to win the Listed MRC Doveton Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
A five year-old gelding by Stratum, the Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained Crystal Dreamer was sent out favourite for the 1000 metre sprint and lived up to expectation when zooming clear to win by more than two lengths for Damian Lane.
“Damian controlled the race on him today and he was well in the race with just a kilogram above the minimum,” Matt Ellerton said.
“My only concern with him was backing up from Oaks day, but he did that with ease.”
With nine wins and seven placings from 21 starts, Crystal Dreamer has been very consistent and while he might lack the glamour of the ill-fated Crystal Lily, he has banked over $415,000 for connections.
Crystal Dreamer is the best of five winners from stakes-winner Crystal Wit, a half-sister to Crystal Lily and stakes-winners Amaethon and Crystal Web from top producer Crystal Snip.
Crystal Dreamer is the 35th stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s much missed sire Stratum, whose place on the Widden roster has been filled by his dual Group I winning son Stratum Star.
