Another Feature Win for Widden Graduate Budriguez
Melbourne- The Group II VRC Blamey Stakes at Flemington on Saturday provided another triumph for tough campaigner Budriguez, but this time he had to share the honour after dead-heating with boom stayer Puissance de Lune (IRE) in the 1600 metre feature.
Budriguez led all the way under Craig Willams, seeing off all challengers until right on the line, his overall record now 11 wins and six placings from 29 starts with prizemoney in excess of $585,000 providing a great result for his big group of owners.
“It’s a big imposing straight at Flemington for a front runner like him, so he’s done a great job to hang on and share the win with the Melbourne Cup favourite,” said Williams.
Budriguez was a modest $25,000 purchase for his trainer David Jolly from the Widden Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
A son of Al Maher, Budriguez is the first stakes-winner for his dam Deni, a half-sister by St Covet to stakes-placed Fangles from the family of stakes-winner Dashing Vagabond.
