Another Feature Win for Widden Graduate Budriguez
Melbourne- In-form galloper Budriguez had to share the spoils last start when dead heating with Puissance de Lune (USA) in the Group II VRC Blamey Stakes, but in the Group III MRC Victoria Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday the honours were all his.
A six year-old gelding by Al Maher prepared in South Australia by David Jolly, Budriguez has been in career best form this preparation and pulled out another A grade effort for Darren Gauci.
He led throughout from barrier two and despite lugging 59 kg, proved far too good in the run home taking the 1400 metre contest by more than a length.
“He ran super today,” said Darren Gauci.
“He really enjoyed it. He just likes to keep running, even with the drop in distance he was too good.”
Budriguez was a modest $25,000 purchase for his trainer David Jolly from the Widden Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and has the overall record of 12 wins and seven placigns from 30 starts with prizemoney of $675,850.
Budriguez is the first stakes-winner for his dam Deni, a half-sister by St Covet to stakes-placed Fangles from the family of stakes-winner Dashing Vagabond.
