Another Juvenile Winner for Stratum
Melbourne – Classy young sire Stratum has been enjoying a winning run with his two year-olds including the Golden Slipper bound I’m All The Talk and Divine Calling with the Peter Moody trained Weinholt adding his name to the tally with a tenacious win at Caulfield on Saturday.
A seven length winner at Ballarat when breaking his maiden and then not beaten far when seventh in the Group II VRC Sires Produce Stakes, Weinholt was sent out favourite for the 1200 metre open juvenile event over 1200 metres and did best in a driving finishing to win by a short half head.
Weinholt races for his breeder Basil Nolan of Raheen Stud and is the first foal of Annamarie, a blue-blooded Darley cast off that comes from the family of Group I stars Helmet and Epaulette.
Annamarie is by Elusive Quality (USA) from stakes-placed Ancelin (IRE), who is a half-sister to Accessories (GB), the dam of Helmet, Epaulette and Bullbars.
Raheen Stud purchased Annamarie off the track for $50,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and raced her on to win a further three races at Dalby, Ipswich and Toowoomba before sending her to Stratum.
Weinholt went to the 2012 Magic Millions where he was sold for $270,000 to Rick Hore-Lacy, a sale that obviously came apart for whatever reason and may in fact be a good thing for the Nolan’s now we know he can run!
Annamarie hasn’t had a foal since Weinholt, but is now back in foal to Stratum so his win will have been very well received by all at Raheen Stud.
