Another Stakes Win for The Hombre
New Zealand – Lucky Owners featured in New Zealand on Boxing Day when his six year-old son The Hombre took out the Listed Newmarket Handicap at Ellerslie over 1200 metres.
The John Bary trained gelding won the Group III BRC Rough Habit Plate at Doomben as a three year-old, but has been out of the winner’s circle since earlier this year.
He relished the slow conditions to bolt away and win by three and a half lengths, his overall record now seven wins and 12 placings from 39 starts with prizemoney in excess of $347,000.
A $50,000 purchase from the Highview draft at the 2008 NZB Ready to Run Sale after initially passing in at the NZB Select Yearling Sale, The Hombre is from the handy Defensive Play (USA) mare Atlanta Belle, who ran fourth in the Group I New Zealand Oaks.
A half-sister to Group I New Zealand Derby winner Great Command, she is also closely related to Group One VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Milward.
