Another Widden Sold Stakes-Winner
Ipswich – Progressive three year-old filly Peron continued her rise through the grades to post a dominant win in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich on Saturday.
The three year-old daughter of Husson (Arg) was following a family tradition as her half-sister Gai’s Choice earned her only stakes win in the same race 12 months ago.
In taking her record to six wins from seven starts the John Thompson-trained filly earned a crack at the final Group I of the season next week, the Tatts Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm, a race Thompson won last year with Pearl Tart, a filly he rates Peron above.
“She’s all class,” Thompson told Sky Racing World. “We’ve always have a big rap on her.
“Class goes along way. She’s a good filly on the way up.
“If she gets there (the Tatts Tiara) in good shape, she’ll be hard to beat.”
Bred by Widden Stud, Peron was purchased by Patinack Farm for $80,000 at the Magic Millions and is a half-sister to Group I placed stakes-winner Gai’s Choice being one of three winners from stakes-placed Faster Pussycat.
