Widden Stud share in the ownership of talented Redoute’s Choice mare Zestful, who won the Group III ATC Triscay Stakes at the start of the year and added the Listed ATC Razor Sharp Stakes to her resume at Randwick on Saturday.

Bred to Northern Hemisphere time, the Kris Lees trained Zestful has been a late bloomer with the last 12 months of her racing career so far proving the best.

Zestful held off the dogged favourite I Thought So to win the 1200 metre sprint by short head with her trainer indicating the mare would now be off to Brisbane.

She will contest the Listed Nudgee Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 30 as the winner gains a wildcard to the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race on January 13.

Initially trained by Sam Kavanagh, Zestful has now won six of 20 starts earning over $400,000 in prizemoney with more in store.

Zestful was a $90,000 Magic Millions National Sale purchase from the draft of Bellerive Stud and runs for Widden Stud’s Antony Thompson and his good mate Paul Frampton.

A half-sister to Group III placed Zedazest and to the dam of Group II winner Military Rose, Zestful is one of eight winners from Zest, a half-sister to multiple Group I winner and leading sire Zeditave from the family of Group I stars such as Greys Inn, Norzita and Melito, who recently sold at the Goffs Broodmare Sale in Ireland for 950,000 euros.

Current stakes-winning three year-old Pariah is another close relation and is also by Redoute’s Choice as is Melito.

As a Group III winning blue-blooded daughter of champion sire Redoute’s Choice, Zestful (image courtesy Steve Hart – Breednet) is a highly appealing broodmare prospect for the future.
