Derby Contender for Stratum
Well-known WA based owner/breeders Bob and Sandra Peters have enjoyed phenomenal success over the summer months in Perth and our top class sire Stratum has provided them with a major contender for the upcoming Group II WATC West Australian Derby next month.
A last start winner of the Listed WATC Lex Piper Stakes, the Grant Williams trained Battle Hero stepped it up another notch at Ascot on Saturday when leading all the way to win the Listed WATC JC Roberts Stakes over 1800 metres by three-quarters of a length.
Sent out favourite, he handled the rise in distance with ease and has the impressive record of four wins and a second from five starts with prizemoney topping $188,000.
He is nominated for the Group II WATC Derby on April 11 and would have to be one of the leading contenders.
Bred and retained to race by Bob and Sandra Peters, Battle Hero is the first foal of winning O’Reilly mare Fromm (NZ), who comes from the family of Group winners No Excuse Maggie, Tootsie and former smart juvenile Hussousa.
Battle Hero is one of 28 stakes-winners for Stratum, who has 15 entries for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale next month.
