First Stakes-Winner for Northern Meteor
Adelaide – Our red hot young sires Sebring and Northern Meteor have been in sparkling form this year, the latter finding his turn to shine on Saturday when two year-old gelding The Voice took out the Group III SAJC Sires Produce Stakes at Morphettville.
Prepared by Tony McEvoy, The Voice has improved at every start to date and after breaking the ice with a facile win at Balaklava last start, he was well in commission for his first crack at a Black Type event.
The Voice was well ridden by Paul Gatt to take the 1400 metre contest by half a length, his overall record now two wins and two seconds from four starts with prizemoney in excess of $100,000.
A $170,000 Magic Millions purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing from the Glastonbury Farm draft, The Voice is a half-brother to stakes-placed Rock Band from Ceol Na Sraide (IRE), a half-sister to Group III winner Al Samer from the family of champion sire Danehill.
The Voice is the first stakes-winner for record breaking sprinter Northern Meteor, winner of the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes.
He is also one of seven winners for the son of Encosta de Lago, whose fee for this season has been set at $27,500.
