First Win for Unit Five Half-Brother
The half-brother to this year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unit Five opened his account at Sale on Sunday and is another promising winner for young Widden Stud sire Anders.
Trained by Robbie Griffiths, three year-old gelding Ulfbehrt is a dead ringer for his sire and made $300,000 when he was purchased by Griffiths de Kock Racing/Peter Ford Thoroughbreds from Widden Stud.
Unlike his younger half-brother Unit Five, who came to hand quickly as a pre-Christmas 2YO, Ulfbehrt has taken longer to find his mojo.
With second placings at his first two starts in April and early May, Ulfbehrt was a hot favourite today for the 1200m maiden with Luke Nolen to ride and duly got the cash.
He was dominant to the line winning by more than a length and will take confidence from the win.

Like Unit Five, Ulfbehrt has some of the Widden Stud team in his ownership having been bred by Widden’s Yearling Manager Liam Attwood and his partners.
He is the second winner from two foals to race from En Aval, whose yearling colt by Anders made $200,000 for Widden Stud at Inglis Premier this year when snapped up by Cumani Racing.
Ulfbehrt is the 28th Australian winner this season for Anders, who has sired three stakes-winners and has seasonal progeny earnings topping $2million. He stands at a fee of $9,900.
