Five Out of Ten for Sea Diamond
Hong Kong – Talented Anabaa (USA) four year-old Sea Diamond was back in the winner’s circle at Sha Tin on Sunday providing a timely pedigree update for his half-brother by Stratum that is headed for the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The John Moore trained gelding had a tough run in transit covering ground but forged clear to win the 1400 metre contest by a neck.
“I’ve always had a lot of time for this horse – he’s a delight to train,” Moore said. “He wasn’t given any favours by the horses inside him, saw daylight the whole way today and still got to line very strongly.”
Sea Diamond has put together an impressive record winning five of his 10 starts in Hong Kong.
Sea Diamond was purchased for $200,000 from the Widden draft at Easter in 2010 and is the first foal of stakes-placed Zafonic mare Apamea (GB), a half-sister to stakes-winner Angelina Carolina tracing directly in tail female line to legendary matriarch Best in Show (USA).
The second foal from Apamea, a striking chestnut yearling filly by Sebring, fetched $240,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when snapped up by Paul Willetts and her current yearling, a colt by Stratum will be offered this year as Lot 15.
Apamea is being given every opportunity to succeed at stud and has another Stratum weanling colt and was covered by Redoute’s Choice last year.
