Impressive Juvenile Winner for Nicconi
Nicconi keeps gaining momentum with a flow of recent winners including the Gerald Ryan trained two year-old Backstab, who beat older rivals to win at Hawkesbury on Thursday.
Third on debut at Rosehill earlier this month, Backstab was sent out a hot favourite for the 1100 metre maiden and led throughout to win by a length and a quarter.
Backstab was a $150,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Jadeskye Racing and was the most expensive yearling from the second crop of dual Group I winning sprinter Nicconi.
Bred by the original Nicconi partners, he is the first foal of Divine Choice, a stakes-placed three-quarter sister to Group II winner Valentia.
Divine Choice has another yearling colt to follow by Nicconi and is due to foal to Sebring this year.
Nicconi is now up to 36 winners for the season and is a clear second on the Australian Second Season Sires List by winners and is third on earnings.
He stands this spring at the affordable fee of $11,000.
