Juvenile Quinella for Stratum
Sydney – Talented Stratum colts Va Pensiero and All The Talk fought out the finish of the open juvenile event at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
The Jason Coyle trained Va Pensiero was resuming following an inglorious debut last in the Listed ATC Breeders Plate back in the spring, but proved that was no guide to his true ability when he zoomed to the line to overhaul All The Talk to win the 1000 metre dash by a neck.
Prior to his debut, Va Pensiero had beaten the eventual Breeders Plate winner Whittington in his first trial and it was that form he produced today for Christian Reith.
“They ran the fastest of all the trials back in the spring, but he didn’t really go on to the race as you would like and then it came up wet on Breeders Plate day, so nothing went right, but he’s always shown ability,” Reith said.
Jason Coyle was delighted with the performance, but will let the dust settle before making further plans.
“He was tough today and will have a good blow after that and improve tenfold,” he said.
“I’ll take him home and talk to the owners before we make our next move.”
Va Pensiero and All The Talk are among the 196 second acceptors for the Group I ATC Golden Slipper.
Va Pensiero was passed in at the 2012 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale when consigned by Brooklyn Lodge and retained to race by his breeder.
He is the second winner for smart Langfuhr (Can) mare Rosmarino, a good metropolitan winning grand-daughter of Group II winner Gelsomino.
Va Pensiero and All The Talk weren’t the only Stratum two year-olds to shine on Saturday with first starter Godiva Rock stamping herself as a filly to follow when finishing a good third to the Darley pair Guelph and Montsegur in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude.
Stratum has a terrific draft of seven quality youngsters to be offered at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
