Lucky Owners Filly Wins Gimcrack
Former Champion Hong Kong miler Lucky Owners might not be the most fashionable sire on the Widden Stud roster, but the son of Danehill (USA) had his moment in the spotlight on Saturday at Randwick when his two year-old daughter Alpha Miss took out the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes.
The Gary Nickson trained filly scored easily at the official two year-old trials and was able to repeat the effort with a long head victory over race favourite Tetsuko after travelling up on the pace throughout.
“She’s such a professional filly,” said winning rider Jason Collett.
“She’s just a dead set two-year-old, but there is still scope for improvement.”
A bargain $6,000 Magic Millions Weanling Sale purchase from the draft of Kilto Park Thoroughbreds, Alpha Miss is the best of four winners from Rory’s Jester mare Soiree Girl, a full sister to stakes-winner Rory’s Classic and half-sister to Group III winner Party Boy.
Alpha Miss is the fourth stakes-winner for Lucky Owners and is actually bred on the same cross as his best offspring, Kiwi Group I winning juvenile The Heckler, who is also from a daughter of Rory’s Jester.
Lucky Owners stands on a fee on application basis.
