New Stakes-Winner for Stratum

 In 2014

Promising three year-old Stratum Star turned in a career best performance to win the Listed VRC Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington on Saturday,

Ridden a perfect race by Brad Rawiller from gate four, Stratum Star dashed home late to snatch a half neck win in the 1400 metre sprint, his second win in eight starts.

A $165,000 Magic Millions purchase for Rick Hore-Lacy, who prepared him for his first four starts,
Stratum Star has clearly turned a corner and is headed for better.

“This horse has been a bit of a work in progress since he arrived (from Rick Hore-Lacy),” said his current trainer Darren Weir .

“He was doing things wrong and we had to sort them out but I think we have now, and thanks to the boys who take them to the beach – it has helped this horse.

“I’m sure there are some good races here (at Flemington) coming up that will suit him and can be very competitive in them.

“There’s an 1800-metre race that will be perfect for him.”

Bred and offered for sale by Widden Stud, Stratum Star is the first foal of Pins mare Purely Spectacular, a full sister to stakes-winner Raid from the family of champion mare Emancipation.

Purely Spectacular has a two year-old filly and yearling filly by Star Witness and is due to foal again to the young Widden Stud based sire.

Stratum Star is the 24th stakes-winner for Stratum, who stands at a fee of $38,500.
