Next Star for Witness
David Hayes was glowing his praise of progressive Star Witness filly Fuhryk, who nailed her first Black Type win when scoring a dominant victory in the Group III MRC Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
With three wins from her previous five runs, Fuhryk has been building a nice record in easier grade and blossomed in her first attempt at Graded company.
Sent out favourite for the 1200 metre sprint for three year-old fillies, Furhyk accelerated smartly for Craig Williams to come from off the pace and win by two lengths.
“I believe that when she gets to 1400 metres and a mile she can be an elite filly,” said David Hayes, who trains the filly in partnership with his son Ben and Tom Dabernig.
With four wins from six starts and prizemoney topping $232,000, Fuhryk has yet to race beyond 1200 metres, but there are a myriad of options for her in coming weeks.
Bred by Michael Christian’s Saconi Thoroughbreds, Fuhryk was a $60,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Rosemont Stud draft for Lindsay Park Bloodstock and runs for a large group of owners that include her breeder.
She is the best of two winners from stakes-placed Fuhrnatic, a grand-daughter of Group I placed stakes-winner Pseudonym Miss.
Fuhyrk is the eighth stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s Star Witness, who has 18 entries for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, click here to see them.
