Ninth Winner for Northern Meteor
Our exciting young gun sire Northern Meteor has shot to the top of the Australian First Season Sires List by winners after producing the quinella in the opening race at Kilmore on Monday.
The David Hayes trained Starenzo improved off a debut third, making full use of gate one to run out an easy two and a half length winner in the 1112 metre maiden over Northern Meteor filly Shooting Sally, who was having her first start.
Retained to race by his breeders Peter Devitt and the late Les Gordon, Starenzo is the second winner from Machiavellian mare San Lorenzo (UAE), who comes from the family of international Group I winners St Nicholas Abbey, Ballingarry, Starborough and Aristotle.
San Lorenzo has a yearling colt and filly foal to follow by Nicconi, who was also bred and raced by Devitt and Gordon.
Starenzo is the ninth first crop winner for Group I winning sprinter Northern Meteor, who is really starting to hit his straps at the back end of the season.
The record breaking son of Encosta de Lago will stand this spring at a fee of $27,500.
