Ramornie Aim for Big Bonanza
Talented Stratum sprinter Big Bonanza earned himself a shot at the Listed Ramornie Handicap at Grafton later this month after scoring a dominant win at the rescheduled Saturday meeting at Rosehill on Monday.
Prepared at Wyong by Don Robb, Big Bonanza jumped from an outside gate and ran his rivals ragged, surging away at the finish in the wet ground to win the Benchmark 85 event over 1200 metres by three lengths.
“I’ve had him set for the Ramornie for the past five months,” said Robb.
“I’ve always thought he was good enough to be competitive in a Ramornie and I’m looking forward to it.”
Retained to race by his breeders, Big Bonanza has the overall record of nine wins and six placings from 28 starts with prizemoney of $336,860.
He is a half-brother to stakes-placed Daunarum from the Phizam mare Gold, a half-sister to Group I winner Z’oro.
He is one of 108 winners this season for Stratum, who is in ninth place on the Australian General Sires List by earnings and will stand at a fee of $38,500 this spring.
