Randwick Double for Stratum
Sydney – Leading young sire Stratum featured at Randwick on Saturday with a running double after Hunter Jack and Queenstown both saluted in style.
The Tim Martin trained Hunter Jack won on debut at Canterbury last November and was back to his best in this 1400 metre assignment at his third run back from a spell.
Superior fitness told the tale in the heavy conditions with Hunter Jack scoring by a short neck, his record now two wins and two placings from seven starts with prizemoney topping $126,000.
Promising staying filly Queenstown has proven a good money spinner for her lucky group of Star Thoroughbreds owners, notching her third win from eight starts when taking out the 2000 metre three year-old event by more than a length.
The Gai Waterhouse trained filly has been making good progress this preparation and looks to have a bright future and has already won more than $154,000 in prizemoney.
A $60,000 purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Armidale Stud draft at the 2011 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Queenstown is the second winner from Zabeel mare Regal Heights (NZ), who comes from the family of Group I winners Serious Speed and March Hare.
