Randwick Success for Northern Meteor Filly
Three year-old Northern Meteor filly Streaking Meteor had to pull out all the stops to stave off a determined charge from runner up Electric Power to win the opening event at Randwick by a whisker.
A winner on debut at Kembla and then second last start at Canterbury, Streaking Meteor showed plenty of heart to win the 1400 metre event and no doubt has more victories in store.
She has the honour of being the first metropolitan winner for the training partnership of Bart Cummings and his grand-son James, who was on hand to greet her back to scale.
“She’s a very gutsy filly and very tough,” said James Cummings.
“She’s a great credit to her sire Northern Meteor, who unfortunately is no longer with us.”
A homebred for Gooree Stud, Streaking Comet is the third winner for metropolitan winning Rubiano mare History Maker (USA), who comes from the family of US Group I winners Manila and Stately Don.
