Sebring Filly on Track for Millions
Opening her account with a strong finishing win at Doomben back in October was the Steven O’Dea trained Sebring filly Candika and she resumed from a short break to turn in a similar performance at Doomben on Saturday.
She settled behind the leaders for Paul Hammersley and dashed to the line to win the 1110 metre open fillies juvenile handicap by a short neck.
With over $80,000 in prizemoney already banked, she looks cherry ripe for the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month.
A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds from the Kia Ora Stud draft, Candika is the first winner for Danzero mare Divya, a three-quarter sister to Group II winner Astrodame and grand-daughter of Blue Diamond winner Midnight Fever.
Sebring made it a race to race double when his five year-old daughter Sea Red saluted in the next race over 1350 metres, while at Kembla, three year-old Sebring filly Involving broke the ice as a short priced favourite for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable.
Sea Red was a $52,000 MM National Sale purchase from the Widden Stud draft and Involving was a $90,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale purchase from the Widden Stud draft.
Widden Stud will offer a half-brother by Star Witness to Involving at the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale as Lot 330.
Currently running fifth on the Australian General Sires List by earnings, Sebring has a large draft for Magic Millions with 50 youngsters catalogued.
