Sebring Winner for Star
Star Thoroughbreds and Chris Waller combined to produce a smart winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday with promising Sebring filly Pioneering, a $90,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Newgate Farm.
The dashing chestnut was a winner on debut at Hawkesbury back in March and has been consistent since then without winning.
Fit and ready to rock at her third run back from a spell, Pioneering finished strongly to beat older mares and win the 1100 metre Benchmark 70 event by a long head, her second win from just five starts.
A filly with a big international pedigree, Pioneering is the second winner for Soothe (USA), a half-sister to US Group II winner Conserve and grand-daughter of celebrated matriarch Fanfreluche, the ancestress of champion sires Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago.
Golden Slipper winner and now leading sire Sebring has long been the pin-up boy for Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds, so it’s no surprise to see Pioneering sporting the purple and white stars.
