Widden Stud sires filled the quinella in the $150,000 Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday when talented Dirty Work filly Never Ordinary prevailed to win over Zousain filly Verzain.

The Byron Cozamanis trained Never Ordinary was sent off a short priced favourite after a debut stakes placing and then a facile four length win at Morphettville earlier this month.

She settled on the fence for Rochelle Milnes and when the leader rolled away from the rail after turning for home, Never Ordinary surged through to race clear and win by a length.

With two wins and a second from three starts and prizemoney topping $110,000, Never Ordinary has proven an extraordinary success given she was purchased as a yearling for just $1250 from the 2025 Inglis Digital February (late) Sale.

Byron Cozamanis revealed the story behind her purchase and the decision to give the filly her chance at success after a stifle issue forced her withdrawal from Inglis Premier.

Never Ordinary is set to target further stakes races during the upcoming Adelaide Carnival.

She is the first stakes-winner among three winners from three foals to race from Satin Sashes, a winning half-sister by More Than Ready (USA) to stakes-winner Assail from the Urge to Merge branch of the Princess Tracy (IRE) family that has produced Group I winners Master of Design and Suntagonal.

Satin Sashes was on-sold through Inglis Digital in 2024 for $600 and has not had a foal since Never Ordinary, who is the second stakes-winner for Written Tycoon stallion Dirty Work, who stands at Widden Victoria.
