Southern Meteor Impressive
Champion trainer Peter Moody combined with red hot sire Northern Meteor to produce a highly impressive maiden winner at Traralgon on Tuesday.
Having his second start, three year-old gelding Southern Meteor thrashed the favourite Googly Gander to win the 1430 metre maiden by four lengths in a dominant display.
A big strong chestnut, he flew the gates for Linda Meech, controlled the race from the front and powered clear in the heavy conditions to win as he pleased.
Southern Meteor was a modest $30,000 Inglis Premier purchase for his trainer from the Widden Stud draft and is the first foal of US stakes-winner Swiss Current (USA).
He is the 11th winner this season for ill-fated Northern Meteor, who is riding high in second place on the Australian General Sires List by earnings thanks to his top class son Zoustar, winner of the Group I ATC Golden Rose last Saturday.
