Stakes Double for Widden Stud Graduates
The Listed SAJC Manihi Classic at Morphettville on Saturday went the way of lightly raced Commands mare The Messina Nymph, a modest $30,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Widden Stud.
The Tony McEvoy trained mare was resuming from a spell following a Listed success at Caulfield last October and sprinted too well for her rivals to take the 1100 metre dash by a length.
The Messina Nymph is building an impressive record with five wins and two placings from nine starts with prizemoney topping $200,000.
A half-sister to Champion Singapore Sprinter Why Be, The Messina Nymph is one of six winners from Charybdis, a Roya Academy (USA) daughter of stakes-winner Balm in Gilead.
The Messina Nymph made it a stakes double for Widden Stud graduates with the Group III ATC TL Baillieu Handicap at Rosehill won by two year-old Stratum gelding Takedown, who was bred in partnership by Widden and retained to race.
