Star Witness 2YO’s Impress at Trials
The most expensive yearling by Star Witness impressed again at the Rosehill trials on Friday, one of two winners for the Widden based sire.
Eden Roc had been produced back in September by Team Hawkes for his first public outing in a Rosehill trials when nosing out Madame Moustache for a win, with Madame Moustache subsequently finishing fourth in the Gimcrack Stakes before winning the Victory Vein Plate at Randwick in the spring.
Eden Roc wasn’t produced at the races back then, and when produced this time for his new campaign again showed obvious potential, winning by over three lengths in a slick 53.9 seconds.
Star Witness is having a real breakout season with Global Glamour winning both the Gr1 Flight Stakes and Gr1 Thousand Guineas and promising three year-old Star Turn winning the Gr2 San Domenico Stakes and Gr2 Schillaci Stakes.
Eden Roc is a three-quarter brother to Star Turn, being out of his half-sister Hilton Head (by Fastnet Rock), and set the record price for his sire in the sale ring when selling to Alan Bell’s Bury Management for $750,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale from the Widden Stud draft.
The other winner for Star Witness came courtesy of Divine Messenger, a filly making her first appearance from the Tony Gollan yard out of former smart stakeswinning, and Group One placed mare, Lady’s Angel.
She was an $80,000 purchase for B2B Bloodstock, also from Widden’s draft at the Magic Millions.
