Stratum Success for Bob and Sandra Peters
Well known and hugely successful WA based breeders Bob and Sandra Peters enjoyed stakes success on both sides of the country on Saturday with Real Love winning the Group III BRC JRA Cup at Doomben, while in Perth their Stratum four year-old Battle Hero scored a career best win in the Group III WATC Roma Cup at Belmont.
Consistent without winning at his first three runs back from a spell, the Grant Williams trained gelding was well backed to win the 1200 metre sprint and scored by half a length over Group I winners Magnifisio and Luckygray, who were tipped to fight out the finish.
Battle Hero had other ideas and emerged successful taking his overall record to seven wins and five seconds from 16 starts with prizemoney soaring past $485,000.
Bred and retained to race by Bob and Sandra Peters, Battle Hero is the first foal of winning O’Reilly mare Fromm (NZ), who comes from the family of Group winners No Excuse Maggie, Tootsie and former smart juvenile Hussousa.
Battle Hero is one of 29 stakes-winners for Stratum, who represents outstanding value at Widden Stud this spring at a fee of $22,000.
Stratum nearly posted a Group double with his classy two year-old colt Attention beaten narrowly into second place in the Group II BRC Champagne Stakes at Doomben.
