Third Winner for Northern Meteor
Sydney – On the eve of the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, exciting first season sire Northern Meteor has weighed in with an impressive debut winner at Warwick Farm on Saturday in the Gai Waterhouse trained Swing Vote.
A strongly built chestnut, Swing Vote jumped swiftly from barrier six and led throughout for Tommy Berry, finding the line strongly to win the 1000 metre dash by a length and a quarter over last start winner Twilight Royale.
“She didn’t show that sort of pace in her trial, but she’s had a lot of barrier practice and really sprinted away from them today,” said Berry.
“She’s not overly big, but she’s very strong.”
Swing Vote is a homebred for Gooree Stud and runs in the yellow and black striped colours of Henry Cojuangco.
“She was very, very good today and it’s even better that she’s by Northern Meteor, so it was good for us all around,” said Monica Barrera, who is now managing the Gooree Stud racing team for her grand-father Eduardo Cojuangco.
Gooree bred and raced Swing Vote’s sire Northern Meteor, who was also trained by Waterhouse and won the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes before retiring to Widden Stud in 2009.
Swing Vote is the first foal of unraced Danehill Dancer (IRE) mare Swing Dance, a sister to stakes-winner Turf Express.
Swing Dance has a yearling filly by Northern Meteor and was covered again by the son of Encosta de Lago last year.
Swing Vote is the third winner for Northern Meteor, who has 25 yearlings to be offered next week at Magic Millions.
