Zoustar Sizzles in Roman Consul
A brilliant winner of the Group I ATC Golden Rose at his previous start, exciting Northern Meteor colt Zoustar confirmed his status as the best three year-colt in Sydney with a resounding win in the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Prepared by Chris Waller, Zoustar thrashed a smart field to win the 1200 metre sprint by more than four lengths, his overall record now five wins and a second from seven starts with prizemoney topping $1.1 million.
Regular rider Jim Cassidy was thrilled with the performance of Zoustar, who will now head to Melbourne for the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day.
“He was ultra impressive today. He is very exciting, he’s going to go a long way,” Cassidy said.
Bred by Racetree and sold as a weanling for $85,000, Zoustar was a $140,000 Magic Millions purchase for Iskander Racing from the Kulani Park draft and is the first winner for Zou Zou, a winning half-sister by Redoute’s Choice to stakes-placed Crestfallen and to the dam of Group II winner Dusty Star.
Zouzou went back to Northern Meteor in 2011 and produced a full sister to Zoustar last spring.
Zoustar is one of five stakes-winners for ill-fated Northern Meteor, who died at the end of July with his final crop of foals being born this spring.
