Determined Win for Dayita

Starting the new season with a strong finishing win at Flemington on Saturday was the progressive Peter Moody trained mare Dayita, an $80,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Widden Stud.

A daughter of champion Queensland sire Show a Heart, Dayita was on trial at the 2000 metres, but relished the additional journey, powering home from back in the field to score a determined length win in the Ratings 89 event, her overall record now five wins and three placings from 12 starts with prizemoney in excess of $177,000.

“That was a hard slog today, but she’s been ultra-consistent all this preparation and it’s fitting to get another Saturday win before she goes for a break and she should have a lovely summer preparation,” said Peter Moody.

“There are some nice races around in the summer and early autumn for her and she’ll get her chance to chase some Black Type.”

Bred by long time Widden Stud client Robert Anderson, Dayita is the first foal of the winning Testa Rossa mare Stellana, who comes from the family of stakes-winners Delgara and Inkster.

Stellana has a yearling colt by Widden Stud’s promising young sire Dreamscape.
