Zoustar Chasing Hard for Record
A metropolitan treble on Wednesday for Widden Stud’s Zoustar that included two new winners for the season has boosted his tally to 206 Australian winners and that is within reach of I Am Invincible’s record breaking tally of 208 set in the 2020/2021 season.
With seven days of the season to come, it’s going to go down to the wire for Zoustar in his bid to make history with two new winners equalling the record and three earning him a place in history.
His two new winners of the season today were three year-old gelding Zouripper, who broke his maiden at Canterbury at his second start and talented four year-old mare Ithadtobezou, who ended a frustrating run of minor placings to return to the winners list at Sandown.
The Danny O’Brien trained mare runs for Cambridge Stud and was a $340,000 Inglis Easter purchase from them from Kia Ora Stud.
She won back to back races at Canterbury back at the start of 2023 when trained in Sydney by John Thompson, however lost form subsequently and appears to have gotten her mojo back since transferring south to the care of O’Brien and won a Benchmark 70 event over 1300m today as favourite.
A three time winner this season for Zoustar, the Joe Pride trained three year-old filly Cosmonova won a Benchmark 64 event at Canterbury over 1100m as favourite for Proven Thoroughbreds and is headed for a big pay day in the sale ring when her racing career is done.
Settling behind the leader before pushing through a gap to score, 3yo Zoustar filly Cosmonova recorded her third career win for @ProvenTbreds & @PrideRacing. A $220,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds / Pride Racing from the Milburn Creek draft, Cosmonova is thesecond foal of Group III winning Nicconi mare Time Awaits, whose first foal is Magic Time.
Since the purchase of Cosmonova, Magic Time has gone on to be a dual Group I winner of $2.1million which is going to enhance the value of her half-sister, who has more wins in store.
All eyes will be on Zoustar runners over the next week as we wait and watch to see what unfolds!
