Zoustar and Shamus Award Make Their Magic Mark

Widden Stud first season sires Zoustar and Shamus Award enjoyed a warm reception at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the former contributing a whopping $8.4 million towards the overall turnover of Book 1.

Zoustar had 32 yearlings average $265,156 in Book 1, while Shamus Award had nine average $170,556.

The top sellers for Zoustar were an outstanding filly (pictured ) offered by Widden Stud from stakes-winner Combat Kitty that made $550,000 and a colt from Rossarita that made $510,000 for Sledmere Stud, both youngsters bought by David Redvers / Mulcaster Bloodstock.

Zoustar had 23 yearlings sell for $200,000 or more in Book 1 providing sensational returns for their vendors.

He was also the third most successful sire by total aggregate for this sale behind only Snitzel and I Am Invincible.

Best result for Shamus Award was a filly from stakes-placed Pink Siris that made $400,000 for Willow Park when snapped up by Ciaron Maher Racing/Dermot Farrington Bloodstock.

Leading trainer Mick Price bought two of his offspring, while Tony McEvoy paid $230,000 for the half-brother to Group I winner Mourinho and Group III winner Molto Bene from terrific producer Benevolent (NZ).
