Adelaide Guineas Triumph for General Peekay
Adelaide – Mick Price’s improving three year-old General Peekay has been racing in top form this preparation and added another feature win to his resume when capturing the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas at Morphettville on Saturday.
Featured as a ‘One to Watch’ on Breednet when he broke his maiden at Geelong last August, General Peekay has been going ahead in leaps and bounds this year and produced a tenacious effort to win this 1600 metre contest by half a head.
Bred by Antony Thompson and foaled and raised at Widden Stud, General Peekay has the overall record of five wins from 12 starts and more than $205,000 in prizemoney.
He is the second winner from former smart Sydney metropolitan winner Barberton and was retained after being withdrawn from the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Barberton died prematurely in 2011, but has a two year-old filly by Northern Meteor to come and a yearling filly by Haradasun sold for $25,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
General Peekay is one of 46 stakes-winners by former Widden Stud favourite General Nediym, who died in 2009.
