Alpha Miss Headed for Golden Slipper
Former Champion Hong Kong miler Lucky Owners has a slick two year-old running for him this season in Alpha Miss, who burst some bubbles at Warwick Farm on Saturday when taking out the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate.
An impressive winner of the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes on debut back in the spring, the Gary Nickson trained filly was fourth to Mossfun when resuming from a break in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes.
She took benefit from that outing and ridden more quietly this time by Jason Collett, Alpha Miss found the line strongly to overpower the previously unbeaten Darley entry Memorial with $1million Snitzel colt Wandjina finishing fourth.
“We planned to sit off the speed today and wait,” said Gary Nickson.
“I thought today with that run under her belt she’d be very hard to beat.”
A bargain $6,000 Magic Millions Weanling Sale purchase from the draft of Kilto Park Thoroughbreds, Alpha Miss has now won three of four starts earning $211,250 with connections announcing their intention to pay a late entry fee to put her into the Golden Slipper.
Alpha Miss is the best of five winners from Rory’s Jester mare Soiree Girl, a full sister to stakes-winner Rory’s Classic and half-sister to Group III winner Party Boy.
Alpha Miss is one of five stakes-winners for Lucky Owners and is actually bred on the same cross as his best offspring, Kiwi Group I winning juvenile The Heckler, who is also from a daughter of Rory’s Jester.
Lucky Owners stands on a fee on application basis.
