Another Stakes-Winner for Stratum
Widden Stud’s sadly missed stalwart Stratum has been in hot form over the summer and added another stakes-winner to the tally when the Gary Portelli trained Straturbo took out the Listed BRC Bribie Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
A full brother to Group III winner I’m All The Talk, seven year-old Straturbo won the Listed BRC Chief De Beers Stakes over the same course and distance back in May and was able to repeat his performance.
He scored a three-quarter length win in the 1050 metre sprint, his eighth win from 44 starts with prizemoney topping $485,000.
The win capped a great day for his trainer Gary Portelli, who won the $500,000 Inglis Calssic in Sydney with She Will Reign.
A $45,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Elite Thoroughbreds from the Widden Stud draft, Straturbo was bred by Teeley Assets and is one of three winners from Weekend Gossip, a half-sister by Hussonet (USA) to triple Group I winner Mentality.
Weekend Gossip was sold as part of the Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014 with Bert Vieira securing her for $270,000.
Straturbo is the fourth stakes-winner this season for Stratum, who has good representation at upcoming yearling sales next year.
