Gai Tipping Sebring
The Gai Waterhouse website is always a treasure trove of information, her daily blog offering some valuable insights for the future such as this gem from yesterday featuring our own Sebring.
Gai’s Blog Wednesday (15/8) – The stallion parades are right on top of us and the major studs are keen to show off their new season sires, not to mention their tried and true blue bloods. This is an important time of year because breeders have to make the decision on which stallion they will send their mare to.
They almost have to forecast which stallion will be fashionable in two years time as what is in now could be well out of favour then. The breeding public can be very fickle. I have many asking me what of the freshman sires is going well and I must say that the sons and daughters of Widden’s Sebring seem to win hands down. They’re so big, strong and extremely precocious.
If anybody could be called an expert on Sebring it would have to be Gai, who selected him as a yearling for Star Thoroughbreds and then prepared him to win the Golden Slipper and claim Champion Two Year Old honours.
Gai has been keen to secure his progeny and has a number in work including Pitcrew, the half-brother to Group I winner Absolut Glam and brilliant sprinter Nobby Snip.
A handsome chestnut from Pine Away (USA), he was bought for $360,000 at Magic Millions from the Widden draft and is aiming towards the Listed ATC Breeders Plate.
