Metro Double for Northern Meteor
Fresh from siring a stakes double at Randwick last Saturday, ill-fated Northern Meteor gave champion trainer Chris Waller a two year-old winner at Canterbury on Wednesday when Idyllic Scenery scored a stylish victory.
The colt was third on debut at Warwick Farm earlier this month on a heavy track and appreciated firmer footing to power home and win the 1250 metre dash by a head for Hugh Bowman.
“The 1100 was too sharp for him first up and he didn’t handle the heavy track very well,” Bowman said.
“He took a lot of benefit from it and has really switched on. There is still more improvement in him too.”
A $140,000 NZB Premier purchase from the draft of Longlands Stud, Idyllic Scenery was a successful pinhook having been bought originally from the Canning Downs draft at the MM National Weanling Sale for $65,000.
Idyllic Scenery is the first winner for Secret Society, a half-sister by Dodge to Group II winner Masked Assassin and stakes-winner Royal Mask.
Northern Meteor then made it a double with the Gooree Stud homebred three year-old filly Glamorous Star opening her account at her third start.
