Metro Double for Stratum
Leading sire Stratum featured with a two state metropolitan double on Wednesday at Warwick Farm and Ascot, with both of his winners sold as yearlings by Widden Stud.
Now with Joe Pride, talented mare Proper Madam surged home to win by a neck over 1200 metres at her second run back from a spell.
The five year-old has been thereabouts in several Black Type races finishing fourth in Listed races on a number of occasions, so her new trainer will no doubt be hoping to improve upon that.
A modest $35,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the draft of Widden Stud, Proper Madam has won over $226,000 in prizemoney.
She is the best of five winners from imported stakes-winner Ultravase (USA).
Making it a double for Stratum at Ascot was four year-old gelding Gigante, a $170,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden draft.
Prepared by Jim Taylor, Gigante posted his third win from seven starts when saluting over 1200 metres.
Gigante is the first living foal of Group III winner Molta, who has a yearling colt by Snippetson and a colt foal by Dreamscape.
Widden Stud will offer 42 quality youngsters at the 2015 Magic Millions.
