New Stakes-Winner for Stratum
The Listed VRC Chester Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Saturday was won in the very last stride by progressive Stratum gelding Anlon.
Prepared by Darren Weir, Anlon has been super consistent since resuming from a spell in early November and was deserving of his first Black Type success.
Sent out favourite, he charged to the line late to beat Limes by a nose in the 1400 metre feature, his overall record now seven wins and eight placings from 25 starts with prizemoney topping $268,000.
“He is a very tough horse and a lot of the credit must go to one of the Warrnambool stables,” said Darren Weir.
“Mark (O’Donnell) and all his team have done a terrific job with this horse. He is a hard working horse at home on the track, but down at Warrnambool he loves the beach and he relaxes.
“It obviously suits him. It has been a terrific preparation.”
A $140,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park, Anlon is the first foal of unraced Zabeel mare Vahine, a three-quarter sister to Group I winner Isolda, the dam of Group III winner Bid Spotter.
He is the 22nd stakes-winner for Stratum and is his seventh in Australia this season.
