Northern Meteor Colt Wins by Ten

 In 2014

The limited edition nature of the progeny of Northern Meteor leads to much interest in what he has left in the pipeline and while his best son Zoustar retires to Widden this spring, we saw a debut winner at Gosford on Friday that may one day follow him to Group I success.

The Hawkes Racing team unleashed three year-old Northern Meteor colt Deep Field, who was in a class of his own when coasting home to win the 1100 metre maiden by 10 lengths with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.

He was a red hot favourite and will undoubtedly be so again whenever he goes to the races next.

A $440,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Edinglassie Stud, Deep Field runs for Alan Bell and the Kia Ora Stud Syndicate.

He was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of Northern Meteor and is a full brother to this season’s unbeaten two year-old Shooting to Win, who has won at his only two starts.

Deep Field is the first foal of stakes-winning Elusive Quality (USA) mare Listen Here, who comes from the Cotehele House branch of the Eight Carat family that has produced Group I stars Danewin and Emerald Dream as well as leading sire Commands.

The last crop of yearlings by Northern Meteor will be offered at sales next year.
