Northern Meteor Filly Wins on Debut
Gooree Stud is one of the most successful private breeding operations in the country and has produced a number of stallions in recent years including our exciting young gun Your Song and ill-fated Northern Meteor, who provided their latest winner at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Prepared by Bart and James Cummings, two year-old filly Who’s Gorgeous kicked off her career with a debut victory making good use of barrier one for Hugh Bowman to win the 1250 metre maiden by a long head.
“She has untapped potential and I get the feeling she can be a Black Type filly in the future, although we’ll just look after her for the time being and take our time,” said James Cummings.
A half-sister to stakes-placed Devils Arcade, Who’s Gorgeous is the seventh winner from seven foals to race from metropolitan winning Anabaa (USA) mare Devilina, who was on-sold by Gooree Stud last year for $4,000 at the Inglis Winter Thoroughbred Sale.
Up running ninth on the Australian General Sires List by earnings with his oldest progeny just four year-olds, Northern Meteor is a stallion that would undoubtedly have been one of the most influential in our industry had he not died prematurely in 2013.
He will have no fewer than five sons at stud this spring headed by dual Group I winner Zoustar, whose first foals will be born this spring.
