Our Sires Are on Fire!

 In 2014

As we head towards Victoria Derby day at Flemington, one of the iconic days on the Australian racing calendar, three stallions from the one Australian owned farm are currently sitting in the Top 10 Australian Sires List by earnings.

Widden Stud have invested heavily in stallions over the past 10 years and we are certainly seeing the results of our endeavour with Sebring, Northern Meteor and Stratum all firing this season.

The performance of Sebring and ill-fated Northern Meteor even more impressive, given their oldest offspring are just four year-olds.

“The results on the track are vindicating our judgement in stallion choice and justifying the enormous investment we have made,” said Antony Thompson.

“All three sires have multiple runners on Saturday at Flemington and we’re looking forward to another big weekend.”

Northern Meteor has his unbeaten star Deep Field tackling Group company for the first time in the Group II VRC Tab.com.au Stakes, while his three year-olds Veuvelicious and Burning Passion line up in the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes and Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakes.

Sebring has multiple Group I winner Criterion in the Group I VRC Mackinnon Stakes, while his fillies Bring Me The Maid and Tahni Dancer tackle the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes and Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakes.

Stratum has four runners with Royal Standing to take his place in the Group I VRC Victoria Derby, in-form three year-old Stratum Star running in the Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakes, Turquoise King in the Group III VRC Yellowglen Stakes and Enquare in the Group I VRC Myer Classic.

Widden Stud wish all runners the very best of luck on this most prestigious of days.
