Star Witness Filly Wins Group Three Proud Miss
Star Witness filly Fuhryk tasted Group III success back in February at Caulfield and was in the frame again at Morphettville on Saturday when taking out the Group III SAJC Proud Miss Stakes.
Narrowly beaten at her previous run at the same venue when second to Sweet Sherry in the Group II SAJC Euclase Stakes, the Hayes/ Dabernig trained filly quickly made amends for that defeat.
She went forward from a wide gate for Craig Williams to travel behind the leaders and powered to the line to win the 1200 metre sprint by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Michael Christian’s Saconi Thoroughbreds, Fuhryk was a $60,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Rosemont Stud draft for Lindsay Park Bloodstock and runs for a large group of owners that include her breeder.
Fuhryk has the overall record of five wins from nine starts with prizemoney topping $430,000.
She is the best of two winners from stakes-placed Fuhrnatic, a grand-daughter of Group I placed stakes-winner Pseudonym Miss.
Fuhryk is one of nine stakes-winners for Widden Stud’s Star Witness, who stands at a fee of $33,000 this spring.
