Stratum Filly on Track for Stakes Goals
Promising Stratum filly Tawteen might have dodged the Group III MRC Quezette Stakes on Saturday, but she will soon be headed back to stakes class after making her spring return with an easy victory at Bendigo on Wednesday.
Prepared by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Tawteen took on older mares in the Benchmark 70 event and led all the way to win the 1100 metre dash by a short neck.
Fifth in the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview on debut to Eloping and then a runaway winner at her only other start as a two year-old, Tawteen looms as a bright prospect for spring and is entered or the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.
“She was just a little delicate as a two year-old and hopefully her constitution has improved as a three year-old,” said Tom Dabernig.
“We think she’s at least a Listed class filly.”
Tawteen was a $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell from the Widden Stud draft and is the second winner for US Group III winner Sprung (USA), a half-sister by Grand Slam to Group I winner Tali’sluckybusride.
Sprung has a two year-old colt by Star Witness and a yearling full brother to Tawteen.
