Stratum Winners Salute
Leading sire Stratum posted a couple of interesting winners in the past two days with classy three year-old filly Tawteen opening her autumn campaign with a win at Moonee Valley on Friday night and in-form stayer Averau claiming another victory at Flemington on Saturday.
An impressive stakes-winner at Moonee Valley during the spring, the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained Tawteen saluted as a short priced favourite when given a pipe opener in the 955 metre sprint.
Tawteen was a $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell from the Widden Stud draft and has won five of nine starts earning over $250,000 in prizemoney with promise of much more to come.
She is the second winner for US Group III winner Sprung (USA), a half-sister by Grand Slam to Group I winner Tali’sluckybusride.
Widden Stud will offer a full brother to Tawteen at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 202.
A last start winner of the Listed VRC Bagot Handicap, the Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison trained Averau went on her winning way when scoring over 2000 metres by half a length.
A $130,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Grange Thoroughbreds draft, Averau has won seven of 18 starts earning over $270,000 in prizemoney.
Averau was a successful pinhook for Grange Thoroughbreds, who bought her from Burnewang North for $48,000 from the Inglis Select Weanling Sale.
Bred by Cathy Hains’ Burnewang North, Averau is the best of two winners from unraced Viscount mare Merayaat, who comes from the family of Group I winners Universal Prince and Universal Queen.
