A record breaking 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale produced great results for Widden Stud with our champion sire Zoustar producing the top priced filly of the sale during Tuesday’s session when selling for $450,000.

Consigned by Clarke and Croft Bloodstock, the filly from Empress Zakynthos was bought by Bruce Mackenzie.

“Everyone wanted her, she was a magnificent filly. She’s well-built and her temperament is amazing. I would go down every night and look at her,” Mackenzie told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“Her gate was open and I would pat her for ten minutes and scratch her head. I’d tell her in horse language that I was going to take her home to Port Stephens.”

Mr Mackenzie owns a property at Port Stephens called Salt Ash and races his horses with the Oakfield prefix.

He believes in a patient approach and will handle her education himself before sending her to one of his two trainers, Damien Lane or Kristen Buchanan.

“I have won 170 races and I have never, ever started a two-year-old in my life and I never will, so she will be a three-year-old. No two-year-olds come out of my stable,” he told ANZ.

“She will be broken in and she will be working on a walking machine, she will swim and she will be on a treadmill, but she won’t have anyone on her back galloping until she is three.”
