Valuable Group One Success for Bonaria
Blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice mare Bonaria was foaled and raised at Widden Stud for her owner breeders Robert and Deborah Anderson and provided a phenomenal result for them when scoring a strong finishing win in the Group I VRC Myer Classic at Flemington on Saturday.
The Pat Hyland trained six year-old finished with a powerful surge to take the 1600 metre contest by a length, her overall record now eight wins and nine placings from 40 starts with prizemoney in excess of $900,000.
“She is one of my favourites, I’ve had some very good fillies but she’s very special,” Pat Hyland said.
“Not that she’s probably as good as them, but she tries harder than any horse I’ve ever had.
“It’s so fantastic for (owners) Robert and Deb Anderson, they have been with me for many, many years it’s their first Group 1 so it’s something very special because they’re great friends of ours.”
Bred and retained to race by Mr and Mrs Anderson, Bonaria is a half-sister to Group III winners Time Out and Legally Bay being one of six winners from the good producing Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Decidity, who has a two year-old filly called Splendido by Stratum, who covered the mare again last year.
