Winning Debut for Expensive Star Witness Filly
Nanna Jen, the half-sister to Melbourne Cup winner Vow and Declare scored a fast finishing debut victory at Moe on Monday.
Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the three year-old daughter of Star Witness was easy in the market, but belied the lack of support from punters to charge home and win the 1200m maiden by a neck.
Nana Jenn runs in the Spendthrift Australia colours and was a $320,000 Magic Millions purchase for them from the Widden Stud draft making her the most expensive yearling by her sire sold in 2020.
Bred by Paul Lanskey, Nana Jenn is a full sister to stakes-winner Lycurgus and half-sister to $5.8 million earner Vow and Declare being the third winner from four foals to race from metro winning Testa Rossa mare Geblizt.
Star Witness has made a fast start to the new season with 24 winners headed by Group II ATC Silver Shadow Stakes winner Swift Witness. He stands this spring at Widden Victoria at a fee of $16,500.
