Blueblood Stratum 2YO Winner
Bred and retained to race by boutique Hunter Valley based farm Cressfield, two year-old Stratum filly Egyptian Symbol was sent out well fancied for the 1000 metre juvenile maiden at Kembla on Tuesday on the strength of three recent trial wins.
The Bjorn Baker trained filly jumped fast from an outside gate for Glyn Schofield and travelled across to sit outside the leader before accelerating in the straight.
A touch green when put under pressure, she showed good determination to hold on and win by half a neck in a most pleasing debut.
“There’s a bit of pressure with a well bred filly like this, so it’s good to see her come out and win,” said Baker.
“It was a good effort to cross from a wide gate and take on more experienced two year-olds and she will keep improving.”
Egyptian Symbol is the fifth winner from six foals to race from Our Egyptian Raine, a Group I winner in New Zealand, who placed in no fewer than nine Group I races in Australia.
The daughter of Desert Sun (GB) is yet to produce a Black Type performer, so connections will be hoping Egyptian Symbol can redress that shortcoming as her racing career progresses.
Our Egyptian Raine is due to foal to dual Group I winner Zoustar this spring.
